Anybody on here sail in Saginaw Bay, MI or Lake Huron?

Trying to get a feel for how many on here might sail in or near Saginaw Bay or Lake Huron? Being new to sailing and hopefully getting done with all my boat projects early spring and launch after I take a local sailing class at the local university (Go Spartans), I would then entertain paying somebody who is a experienced sailor to sail with me for just one day---pay, free food and after sailing, free drinks!

I originally posted this in the O'Day forum however and obviously, one doesn't have to have an O'Day to fill this request.

Lots of people sail in Saginaw Bay and Lake Huron. I don't think you have to pay anyone, just be friendly (the beer is a good sign you are friendly, by the way). There are several great options out here, particularly if you own a trailer boat. Bay City, where the Saginaw River meets the bay, is a great sailing town (not the only one, by any means). Saginaw Bay Community Sailing Assoc. (http://www.sbcsa.org/index.php) based in Bay City is an organization that promotes sailing in the area through youth and adult classes, plus member use of small boats (party on April 9!). There are several active yacht clubs along the Bay that would love to associate with you, offer advice, and gain a member. I'm a member of Bay City Yacht Club (http://baycityyachtclub.com/) which has an active sailing program and offers "dry sailing" options (ability to park your boat mast-up and launch for a considerable cost savings over in-water dockage, and time savings over stepping your mast every trip). Farther north there is Tawas Yacht Club (http://tbyc.net/) - a very active club. On the thumb, there is Huron Yacht Club in Caseville (http://huronyachtclub.net/). Good luck, and PM if you want more info.

Thanks for the reply. I purchased a 36 foot slip at Main Pier Marina in Oscoda which is right at the mouth of the Au Sable River. I really couldn't turn down the price along with the low yearly dues which include water and electric and the use of their beautiful clubhouse right on the Au Sable. I am an avid fishermen as well so I hope to catch some walleye and salmon there while relaxing. It's not a super fancy marina however the price to buy a 36 foot slip was less than 2 years leasing cost of a slip in other marinas in the general area. My mast on my 26 will have to go down and up once a year which isn't too bad and that's because of power lines running near the road entrance into the marina. Leaving the boat on the hard for the winter is free for owners so I'll lower and raise the mast once a year for that cost (or lack thereof)!

So anyway, I would love to find somebody in the Saginaw Bay area that would like to take a short drive to Oscoda and help me for a day and I really do not mind paying them to sail for the day with food and beer afterwards.

Thank you for that offer and I might take you up on that. I am not going to launch this summer due to not having what I want done on the boat yet. Several weeks left to work on it and I travel a ton for business so my nights are wasted in hotels.
