Is anyone using a Schaefer headsail furler? If so, what do you think of it? The original Streamstay (a piece of junk if ever there was one) on my H45 finally bit the dust, and cannot be repaired as nobody has parts. I'm actually almost relieved, but replacing it is going to be $$$...also considering a Harken. Let me know what you think. Thanks, MC

Streamstay junk?

My Streamstay is 20 years old and works fine. Rig-Rite has some parts at 401-739-1140(http://www.rigrite.com/hyde/hyde.html). I have the manual and greased it last Spring. But I've only owned the boat one year so don't know what care it previously had.

Streamstay 2 is Junk, 1 is OK

You probably have the Streamstay 1, which was constructed from machined parts and is a perfectly good unit. Unfortunately, I have the Streamstay 2, which was made from cast parts (tears up bearings) and is, as I said previously, junk. The Streamstay 1 is still made, while the 2 has been discontinued. MC

Had One!!

Michael, I do not currently have a Schaefer furler on my Hunter, but had one that came from the factory on my Catalina 42. After 4 years of use on the fresh water I was very pleased with the system. Schaefer had excellent tech department for answering questions, etc. The system was very straight-forward and worked very well in all conditions. I will say however, that I think the ProFurl on my Hunter is a better system, but I believe a bit more pricey. When Schaefer came out with their new line of furlers quite a few years ago, they did their homework and developed a very nice product. Hope this helps.
