I don't own a H260 any more but did for a while. We lived on it comfortably for more than two months at a time with our dog, trailered it from Canada to Florida (1800 miles one way). I would be happy to give you my impression of it or may be able to answer some specific questions. PM me if you want to.

I have a photo album of our 260 on this web site detailing some of the modifications I made to the boat, http://forums.hunter.sailboatowners.com/album.php?albumid=1031

Having a look at one first is a good idea if you can.

Good luck, Bob

We have an H260 at Lake Murray. It's a great boat for trailering and sailing and we now keep it in a slip. I'd be happy to talk sometime if you're in for a phone call. I'd be happy to show you my boat but it's still a couple of hours or so drive for you. Send me a private message with your phone number if you want to talk sometime.

What is the fuel consumption with 9.9 ,how much fuel can you carry ? We have a 26x with etec 90 ,with two daughters 12 and 10 ,space has become a valuable commodity!would you cross and maybe do exumas in a 260 ? I just can not bring my self to buy another keel boat yet after having so much freedom with a trailer sailer ?

I had the newer Honda 9.9, 25" shaft, on my H260, average fuel consumption was about 1/2 gal. per/hr. I had the plastic 3 gal. fuel tank under the helm seat, plus there was space for 3, 3 gallon jugs, so carried 12 gallons all together.

We really liked the boat. Never had any concerns with it, handled all the weather we every ran into. Personally I would not take any 26 ft boat to the Bahamas. We wanted to cruise the Bahamas and so bought the H356.

Sumner is doing a Bahamas cruise now with a 26 ft Mac that is fully loaded. Check out his post,

We almost bought a 376 hunter a few months ago , I know I need to bite the bullet but I swear I love the flexibility and versility of these boats . One issue I had with the 376 is if we left it it the Caribbean year round insurance was through the roof .

Try shopping around for insurance. We keep our boat in Florida, our insurance coverage is from Lake Ontario to the Turks and Caicos. I think ours is quite reasonable for what we get. We live in Canada and are a Canadian documented vessel so use a Canadian insurance company. I'm sure there are some reasonably priced companies available in the U.S. as well.

Hunter 260 Folly Beach
Bama Bound - Hi, Boyd Newman here. I have a 2003 Hunter 260 at Sunset Cay on Folly Beach that you're welcome to take a look at. Incidentally, I was just about to put it on the market, but had not yet pulled the trigger. I may can save you a trip out of state. Short version here - we purchased the boat in 2005 or so from Lake Kerr on the NC/VA line and she has spent the majority of her time in fresh water on Lake Keowee in the upstate of SC. Also, she's made multiple trips to the SC coast, the panhandle, and south Florida. Last spring, she came to Folly and stayed. Generally, she's in good condition. I have the factory trailer and a cruise air portable ac unit for the front hatch. The roller jib was replaced last year and the main is original. There's a Tohatsu 9.8 two stroke that has been very reliable. We just replaced the throttle and transmission cables. The bottom was painted this spring and has been cleaned monthly by a diver while at Folly. The boat was professionally detailed last summer and shows well. I believe the fuel capacity is 12 gallons, and while I've never done an actual fuel audit, the estimate in the previous post seems about right (the 4-stroke probably gets slightly better gas milage.) As far as taking the boat to the Bahamas, be advised the 260's are not really considered to be off-shore craft. That said, with the right weather window, the thought has crossed my mind as well. In any event, if your interested, or would just like to take a look, give me a shout or an email and we could make arrangements. (864) 270-7417. Boydaclies@gmail.com

Great offer, Boyd. Bahama Bound should take you up on it. Even if he doesn't buy your boat or any other boat. And welcome to the forum!

*Feeling all misty now*
