Any vang attachment ideas?

I went the inexpensive(cheap) route and purchased a simple rope vang for my H37C. It's a Garhauer and seems to be a quality item. The boom has an attachment point but there is nothing at the mast base. The partner has flat philips head bolts through to the inside plate. The nuts are inside. On the sides of the mast a bolt passes through an aluminum casting that is machined into the partner. But I don't think I want to remove that bolt. Anyone done this? Thanks.

Vang attach

I've got the same arrangement on my 37c, except with no thru bolt. (The only thru bolt on my mast is at the base.) I replaced the aft-most countersunk bolt in the aluminum partner plate with a stainless eyebolt, and connected the vang to that. About $10 at West M for the SS eyebolt and locknut. Has worked fine for the past year.

Thanx Walt,

your solution seems to match my budget. I'll look for that at the store on Saturday. Need a nut/washer on the top and bottom or just on the inside?

A bit late in getting back to you, Ed, but I did use a flat washer inside the cabin, and a nylon lock nut as well. No washer needed on top for my installation, since my eye-bolt had a welded flange on it below the eye, which served as the flat surface a washer might otherwise provide. I did have to hacksaw off some of the thru-bolt and dress the cut edges with a file, but that didn't take too long. Used a little silicone to seal the eyebolt as well.

Thanks again, Walt...

I'll look for that eye-bolt this weekend so I can finally hook her up. Sailed last Sunday without the vang.
