What has worked for me

I have a '94 26 and have had several deck leaks over the years. The best thing I have use is plumber's rope caulking. It feels like play clay and is used to install sink drains. Aply a liberal amount under the track, re-mount it, and with an orange stick (or your finger nail) remove the excess. It will NOT stain the deck, will NOT get hard or crack, and can be easily removed in the future. It can be purchased at any good hardware store. I've found that silicone works well, but leaves a real mess. 3M - 5200 also works really well, but removing it done the road is near impossible. Hope this helps.

Last Year...

...I removed and rebed the traveller track when I replaced the hard rubber endcaps on the traveller of my L37. I removed it. It was straight, but the traveller area was camberred. I removed all of the old residue with a putty knife and mild steel wool on both the traveller and the cockpit area. Recaulked every thru bolt hole and left some excess using LifeCaulk. As I pushed the 4" bolts thru the traveller and holes, anything of excess in the holes were pushed thru. (put a rag on the deck inside for the droppings.) Replaced the washer, lock washer, nut and acorn nut and haven't experienced any leaks. Hint: Because of the camber, start at one end and sequentially relace each bolt/nut to allow the traveller to conform to the camber shape of the traveller area.

Paul, what did you use to remove rust stains from

around the traveler? Steel wool? You meant bronze wool, right?
