I still have the original Rutgerson traveler on my boat. I sail with kids on the boat all the time and am afraid someone is going to loose a finger. Has anyone made an upgrade to a better traveler? Any suggestions? Is there something available that will fit the t-track I have or will I have to change it also?

Check the archives

There are several systems available, all of which use the existing track and car. Pick the one that works best for you. Good luck. Peter H23 "Raven"

whatever you do

don't buy the cheap lewmar traveler. The car isn't attached to the track all too well. (don't ask how I found this out)

More info please

Peter, Can you give me a little more info please? I didn't realize I could keep the same car. Does someone make a kit that will add the lines to it so I can eliminate the pin stops? (I am a novice.) Brian, Have you replaced the Lewmar with something that is working better?

Hello Clint

Here are a pics from the Forum Archives of the simplest modification, developed by John Schaub: http://www.sailboatowners.com/upload/display.tpl?folder=73237843030&fno=17 http://archives.sailboatowners.com/fpix.tpl?xfno=5&rid=2004141085854.10&reply=T Note that the pin stop was simply moved to the end of the track, where it is now out of the way. Photos of my first mod are in the Photo Forum, but I've modified it further to make it easier to adjust from the rail and switch cleats when tacking. My mod was more complicated (and probably doesn't work as well). I used Schaefer end sheaves which were expensive and forced me to remove the track, then bolt it back down after adding the end sheaves. Oh well... I hope this helps. Peter H23 "Raven"
