Anyone know what would cause this? Turned on the AC Saturday (heat cycle) to warm up the boat and about 10 minutes later, the seawater pump literally exploded blowing itself apart and spraying oil throughout the compartment. The sea cock was open and water was flowing prior to the pump blowing apart. Pump date is 2002 and properly sized for the system with no flow restriction.

My guess is general failure

I suspect that the pump wheel fatigued, or had a factory crack that eventually got big enough that it couldn't hold it's self together anymore. Without seeing the damage it's hard to make any better guess than that.

Maybe thru the winter

There was ice in there,I had the same problem with a macerator pump a couple of years ago, after looking at it there was evidence of ice damage (I guess there wasn't enough pink stuff in there or none)

Probably ice .....

plus when you winterized last fall you didnt add antifreeze to the pump, and the housing developed a hariline crack, etc.
