No big problems I'm aware of...

...we love our '86 25.5. Are you looking at one?

Problem Area

I have seen two 25.5s with leaks and cracks around the junction of the chain plate and deck. Other than that they both looked very good for their age.

Problems With 25.5

Steve: Great boat - sails well and comfortable interior for 25+ feet, but they are 18+ years old. As Jeff D says, chainplates can be source of leeks. Check the bulkhead where they are secured below for water damage. Check teh underside of teh cabin sole for softness--this may indicate that replace of the cabin sole may be necessary. Finally, ask how the boat has been used. If it has been in heavy swells alot, the rudder hardware could be suspect since it is on the light side for the boat's displacement. Dave Weir "Last Resort"

blisters...

When looking for a larger sailboat 4 years ago, the 25.5 was one of my favorites, sails great, strong toe rail for smacking pilings, roomy, fast, good layout. However, every one I looked at had a history of significant blister problems. One owner had spent over $6,000 in blister repairs during 3 bottom job haulouts in 6 years. Since all 8 were here in Florida, the warm waters could have been a factor. I think it is a solid boat, just find one without a blister problem. Good Luck.
