My experience after two years with an '86 272
BB,I have a 1986 model 272. It was sold to me as an "LE" abut in fact is a 272 that had an aftermarket wheel added at some point. I have the Westerbeke 10HP diesel option, and after 2 years, no serious complaints. I would echo Dave's mention of the pintles and gudgeons. I've experienced quite a bit of wear in these fittings, so that there is a regular "thump - thump" when the boat is in any kind of waves or moving water. Too much slop has worn the grooves in the pintles and elongated the holes in the gudgeons. I have been looking for a bushing to slip into hole after I drill it slightly oversize to fix this issue. I've added a holding tank to my boat and replumbed the head. My previous owner had a porta-pottie, but my understanding is that the boat originally had a bladder type holding tank. Overall, I've been thrilled iwth the boat, and used it when I first got it in Spring, 2004 for a six week solo (mostly) cruise on the Chesapeake. I keep thinking about selling it, but reconsidering, as I love the boat and feel I found a real sweet, managable boat, perfect for Chesapeake Bay gunkholing (2' 11" draft). I just launched mine after repainting the bottom, and there were no blisters at all. Hull in very sound condition. Minor leaks around the forward hatch as well as the insrument cluster in the cockpit are the only items on my immediate "to do" list.Good luck!
