I just spent a couple days in Savannah,TN. Pickwick looks like a good sailing destination. Nice area. Shiloh battlefield minutes away......Anyone sail there?

pickwick is our home port. actually yellow creek. Savannah is about 00:20 min. drive from grand harbor. we hit the wal-mart and lowe's for project needs. found a fabric shop and got a great price on wall covering for the forward head. plenty of room for sailing. lots of transients heading north and south on the tombigbee.

Pickwick Lake

Pickwick Lake has been my dock for 10 plus years. There are 5 marinas on the lake with 2 being state marinas. Inexpensive but incompetently operated. Typical of state operation. There are two boatyards and both do good work. Pickwick Lake flows north into the Tennessee River and south into Florence Alabama. Pickwick is also the entrance to the Tombigbee Waterway to Mobile Alabama. Approx 50% of the shore is own by state and protected from building homes. This gives you lots of coves for anchoring and getting back to nature. We have one sailing club PSCA and we are in the middle of our spring racing season. Sailboats range in size from 25 to 45 feet. Water is deep and clean great for swimming and fishing. Lot of wealthy people have homes and big power boats so the water can be quite rough on week ends. Costs for water front property on the lake run about 1 million for ½ acre. Mast height to clear bridges should be less than 50 feet. Beautiful lake.

Thanks Folks,

Where would you suggest launching? Can you leave a tow vehicle and trailer there for a few days? Any good restaurants on the water? (I went to Fast Freddy's?...was OK) Which coves are protected from the wakes of the 3000 hp Fountains? Thanks again.

There are two free boats ramps with good parking for car and trailer One at Pickwick State Park and one at the Tn/Ms state line by the bridge. Eating places on the lake is St. Clair at Aqua Yacht Harbor and Pickwick State Park Resort by the Dam. By Car is Freddie T's, John Pier, Broken Spoke in Counce . There are other restaurants in Counce and Highway 57 from Pizza to catfish to Mexican. Get local map for good anchor coves.

Salon Table

The table is made from Popular wood and stained with a teak stain with many coats of laquer. I bought the wood at Lowes. I select the wood with the most dark grain due to the soft wood. Wood kind of soft but compare to real teak the price was right.

Re: Salon Table

hey rick, capt. jeff tells me if there's a gadget to have on a boat, you have two of them! didn't notice the captains chairs the first look. with all the apparatus i was surprised to see we have the same grill on the stern rail. do you have a clamp on table at the grill? if not do you want one? need to hit the parts store at aqua yacht next trip up, will stop by and say hi if your home. have a sample table on the boat for our new neighbor. jeff left us for A- dock (patio-dock) now i have to dingy over. jimbob

Made another quick trip to Savannah. Drove over to Pickwick State Park and checked out the launch ramp. I'm assuming you back all the way down to the water between the vehicles and trailers. Can you leave your vehicle and trailer in either of those lots for a few days, and if so how safe would it be? Really like the area, how long is your effective season? How far upstream can you go with a sailboat(under 40' mast)?

The water sure was higher on the other side of the dam!

stop in any army corp of engineers office for free info. good stuff. Fred meyers has a great hand book on the tenn. tom. 10 min. further south and you wold find grand harbor. i'm trying to talk a friend with a 20' montego to put in there for the summer before he sells it. 10 min. further south and you find aqua yacht. closer to the local eateries. with less than 40' mast height you can go further than you would imagine. bay springs is a 6 to 8 hr. motor south and the water is great. jimbob
