I am considering purchasing a new Hunter 22. I'd love to hear some feedback from someone currently racing one. I currently crew for races on a 216. We have been fairly successful. Curious how the two compare. What kind of handicap is being used for the 22?

Hunder 22 (redesigned in 2011) Conesus Lake, Livonia NY
I've raced lasers to much bigger boats and I owned a 216 for one season until the hulll cracked (exterior thermal layer) in cold winter storage here in NY. I chose a replacement boat, the all fiberglass H22. The 216 is surely lighter but for my purposes which do not include racing the 216 with its internal pivoting rudder is a monstrosity for a technical person. Having raced for so many years I couldn't tolerate that always balanced to even a gibing rudder. The transom hung rudder is so superior for feel in tuning the boat. They removed the water collecting lip at the back of the transom and the revised bow sprit is just great to operate from the companion way. It is a great sailing boat and wouldn't give any thought to a used 216 whatever the relative handicap numbers would be. Understand I bought a new 216 and thought it to be exactly what I wanted, I'm saying the H22 is a far superior boat technically.
