Any one fitted a ZF 12 M Transmission as a replacement to a Hurth HWB 10 R-2?

We've got a busted transmission and struggling to understand what will be ok to replace it with. We've heard the ZF 12 M will do it but aren't sure.

Has anyone got any experience doing this? How much jiggery was needed to fit it in?

A year ago I was in the same spot. Research indicated the replacing the Hurth with a ZF would require altering the shaft and raising the engine on new beds. I decided to go with a rebuild of the Hurth. In the end it was the best course of action. The rebuild cost $1600.00 ( US) and the ZF was estimated to close to or over $5,000

just got a quote for $2000 to rebuild (Florida ) versus $2300 new . I will be putting in a new ZF 12M to replace my Hurth HBW 10=2R (=HBW125)

Jamie i installed the beta Tmc 40 this past fall. All in all it was an easy install. it is a direct replacement. we raised the engine by running a line from a board across the companion way then released the transmission from the coupler and slid the transmission from the engine. we ended up raising the engine 1/4 in to get the right angle.

The only issue you run into is your control handle is reversed.

Usually this can be fixed by rotating the shift handle on the transmission by 180° or by changing the side the cable attaches to on the shift control at the helm if you have a single handle control.

Yep, that is what I did when installing my TMC 40. A diagram for a new shift cable bracket was easily found on the net. I made one out of G10 board.
