Any interest in Anchor Riding Sails?

My new father-in-law owns World Tents and as a sailor Ive been trying to get him to expand into sailing "stuff", both to get some comparatively inexpensive items available for all sailors, get him a new product line of goods , and get on his good side lolol

I had about decided he wasnt gonna be interested, but he just called and sailed he made an anchor riding sail that i had asked him about.

I havent talked turkey on price yet, but he said hes planning on making them "much better than" the example I showed him, and beat the prices i showed him online by "alot"...

I probably should have gauged interest before now but like i said i didnt think he was even paying attention to my suggestions lol

I just new I needed one, and apparently i need to go pick mine up..

He said hes gonna just let me market and sell them..

I had also talked to him about what I call "boom tents" which just drape over the boom at anchor.. he said he can make in white material where no sun would even shine through, water and sun proof, any size.. He has access to just about anything. they specialize in making tents that hold like 5 thousand people under them so this is simple stuff to them.

Anyways.. give me some feedback please. Id love to get him making sailing gear...

Start by explaining to this rookie just what an anchor riding sail is or does.

Well I just got my C-250 a month ago and weve had some pretty good winds at night on Texoma last several weeks.. around 15mph at night.

A lot of boats will "sail" on the anchor line... Basically the high freeboard of modern boats acts as a sail and you sail one direction and then the other.. Also called swinging at anchor.. Mine has a centerboard so i have the added clunk and bang when it gets to the outer edges of the swing.. So I needed one bad. But if you swing a lot its uncomfortable and it can be dangerous if there are other boats around swinging in a different rythim.

The anchor riding sail ties up at the stern and makes your boat only sail one direction on anchor and stay there. They are small, like 7 foot x 7foot x something for my boat but they are made in different sizes.

If you use one and also make sure you are tied to the front of your boat by a bridle (or i cheat and put a caribiner on the line and clip it to the trailer hook which you have too.) then I just cleat off like normal and the anchor pulls from the front of the boat. But even doing that I still swing in a big 45 degree angle

One of the admins, Phil, just emailed to let me know (in a nice way) that this may be considered a violation of policies here on the forum since its talking about a potential commercial enterprise, and obviously it would be promotion of one. I have to admit Ive never read the policies, but i try to follow the rules, so i wont continue to post on this thread.

helpful hint-- sailing dink sails do a great job of being anchor riding sails.... cheaper than a dedicated one, sorry, but is true and used a lot... just something to consider...... used are often less than 100 dollars-- see good thrift stores near bodies of water......

Love my anchor sail...... keeps my boat from swinging. Tested in Block Island with 50+ sustained winds for over 6 hours. What a ride!

Does your 36 have a split backstay? If so, how do you rig the sail? Thanks, Ron
