This furler (see photo) has a lunchy drum bearing.

Attempting to determine manufacturer, to see if replacement parts are available.

No marking on unit. (May have been an adhesive label that has fallen off.)

Any idea who made this?

No, but you do not need to know to replace a bearing. remove the bearing and take it down to a bearing, belt and chain business and they will reference it and provide you with a new one for a bit of money!

Hmmmmm, I suspect the drum needs to be identified and replaced.

I could be mistaken, but I don't believe it has a removable steel roller bearing (in which case I would take it to our local bearing place.

I think most furlers have composite (Torlon) bearings in race that is integral to the drum casting.

Just trying to help. If the drum is still nice, otherwise I would figure a way to put in a new bearing surface. Chief

It could be an early Cruising Designs (CDI) Micro or Micro B spool, maybe. Its hard to tell from the picture. There are no bearings in those. It would just need a good flushing with fresh water. Actually, that might fix whatever model it is. Have you tried that?

Chief what is a bearing ,belt and chain business? I'd love to be able to replace the nylon friction bearing with a roller bearing in my old furled. Used a friends with roller bearing the other day and what a difference.

Measure the bearing with a caliper and go on line to see who sells what you need.

I just did this with a raw water pump. I live next to an individual who is always working on cars. He found the little number on the bearing nearest the hole for the shaft and measured ID,OD and width. All these are in millimeters but can be translated into inches. He then found mine online and ordered them for cheap knowing who makes good sealed bearings.

I tried Eastern Bearings but wasn't smart enough to figure what I needed through their website. https://easternia.com/

Good luck.

Caguy: Go to the phone directory and look these businesses up or go on line and google your area. The # on the bearing is actually all you will need but if you can remove it it is best to take it with you. Most people don't seem to know that bearings are universally sized. You can mike it in mm as well. Chief

mm is the universal standard for making bearings that's why they are the same all over the world and as far as i know that is the only man made thing that is

Morning Woody! Yes, I sure don't know how the world got it right on bearings and screwed everything else up! It does fascinate me that the average person does not know this. Helps to be a biker huh? My Best, Chief

Is this it?

Does the rest of the unit look like this? If so, I'll continue my thought, otherwise I'll keep it short for once!

it's an Isomat Isofurl model #8, and it was the original furler on our Beneteau First 285. I was able to get parts for the system at RigRite.com. They have parts pictures, descriptions and some diagrams, documentation and specs on their website. What is pictured is what I have left of it after installing a new system. I'd be happy to send you the bottom assembly for the cost of shipping. Does your system use the halyard hoist locking car? The one in the picture is a replacement part that I purchased from Rig Rite, it's a pricey little part, but it isn't doing me any good in my garage... Send me a PM if you are interested in either or both.
