Well, I am a seasoned power-boater and reasonably good sailor, so I thought I had a pretty good grip on gear and mechanics. But this has me baffled. I am restoring a 1980 C22 (unnamed as of yet) and cannot figure out what the pump-like device mounted in the port lazarette of this boat could possibly be. Attached are photos from the cockpit and underneath. Any insight would be most appreciated as I am unsure what to do with it. Thanks!

hook some hoses up to it, and its your bilge pump.

A handle goes in the slot.

Thank you Jackdaw. I have never seen such a beast. I am sure you chuckled, as I am both amazed and quite embarrassed to learn this. Considering the boat had 2 electric bilge pumps and a hand pump, I never considered a fourth option.

Yes, this boat was the "Disney property" of mud daubers. They had pools and slides and multiple resorts in in lazarettes, sail bags, kitchenette, sails and instruments. After multiple tense moments and an entire epi-Pen..they are gone. LOL

Its a whale style bilge pump, might have fun finding a handle for it but nice thing is it has an inlet hose and an outlet hose and you can put them anywhere ( subject to hose length and your arm strength) to evacuate any area or transfer if you are into liquid ballast! BTW solution for wasp problem is couple of old socks down below containing 2 or 3 mothballs. Keeps them out

Jacktar, Thank you for the deeper dive on this pump. I was curious as to its provenance. I plan to pull it out and see if it is usable. I may just put it back and leave it for that really-bad-bad-bad-day-of-sailing. Mothballs and socks...sounds like a good preventative.
Thanks again.
