Hello all,I may have to hang out in Miami waiting for hurricane season to end. Does anyone know If there are areas that are free in Miami or Key west to hang out on my 25' while waiting better weather? Thanks in advance, D.

Yep

There are alot in the Miami area. There are many liveaboards in Miami just north of the Port entrance just south of Ventiatan causeway. Enter the port and turn north on the intercoastal. Once under the first fixed bridge head east and there is a large anchorage there. If you go under the drawbridge beyond the fixed bridge and then head east, there are lots of anchorages there as well between the man made islands on the east shore.... Brian

Hey Brian of FTL

are any of the bridges you mention above the Tuttle? If so, that's a real height restriction right? If not, what are the bridges you mention and/or the heights of them? Thanks.

No bridges

No.. the fixed brdige is is 65' and the Venitian Causeway is a draw bridge.. If you are coming down the intercoastal, the Tuttle is only 56' and restricts me, so I have to go outside and come into Gov. cut..As you come in the cut you will see the 100's of boats anchored to the North... Pick your spot ;) Brian

Wisteria and Tank Islands at Key West

You can anchor just NW of the Key West bight near Tank and Wisteria Islands. There are always a lot of anchored boats there. You can dingy into Key West; dingy dock is $4.00 per day. Check out the link and you can see the islands looking north from Key West.

try the left side

There are a lot of anchorages in the newly revamped Charlotte Harbor thanx to our new friend Charley. The harbor now offers lots of challenging navigation, just drop a hook anyplace you choose, there is nobody around to do anything about it. As for the charts, don't worry about them, just throw out your old charts of Charlotte Harbor since they no longer apply. The way our government works, it will be 2085 before the harbor gets re-surveyed. So come on over and stay a while, you'll have lots of swing room every where you go with no neighbors to bother you, just watch out for the locals, they are starting to get a bit touchy living a quarter mile from the sun with no electricity for going on our third week.

keys, coconut grove

There is a large mooring field just east of coconut grove, and many boats anchor over in keybiscayne. also, in the upper keys I see a lot of live aboards in the shallow areas on the bay side. Marathon is determined to charge, but most of the upper keys appears to be unregulated so far. -just watch the direct discharge... they are boarding, and puting dye in the holding tanks and sealing the Y valve. HUGE fines for discharge... not to mention the charges for running aground in 'sea grass' if you're willing to move when asked, you should have no problems... if leaving a boat unattended, I suggest you pickup a mooring bouy.

MYC

miami yacht club is 'inexpensive' yacht/sailing club just north of government cut, which sounds like the mooring field brian is speaking of... MYC has pretty nice facilities to shower, drink and eat... but imho, coconut grove area has much more to offer ashore.
