As a frequent singlehander, I would like the comfort of keeping the boom under control when going downwind. I don't move fast as I used to! Anyone have any experience with the Dutchman Boom Brake? (Beneteau 321 w/ rigid vang) Thanks in advance.

It works

Have had the Dutchman Boom Brake for 15 years. It works well. The thing I don't like about it (and all boom brakes) is the attachment point to the boom interferes with my dodger a bit but this is a function of my boat (high dodger). I have a solid vang too so the brake has to be attached further out on the boom. Very handy piece of equipment when going downwind in lumpy seas.

Easier, cheaper idea

Change your boom vang from 4-1 purchase by adding a second set of blocks. Gives you more strength when pulling down on the vang. Use the second set of blocks as a preventer, by clipping it onto the gunwale or stanchion block to prevent accidental gybing.
