I want to replace my Chartplotter with one that is eisier to read in direct sunlight. I'm interested in the C-Series since I can add radar later. Does anyone have experience with this chartplotter? I currently have a fixed-mount Standard that I don't like and a Garmin 376C portable that is very intuitive to use. I would consider a Garmin multi-function unit but the Raymarine is more affordable. What is your experience? Thanks, Dave

What is the source of chart software? Be wary if it is a format that Ray could change on you in a few years. Ask those of us with the Garmin G charts.

is the chart software that is used. Raymarine doesn't have anything to do with it. If you move your boat from one ocean to another, then purchase the new chart card from Navionics. You can also update the internal software on your unit over the internet. If you register with them, they will notify you of any changes to your chartplotter internal software. Love my C80.

Raymarine

I am also looking at chartplotters. The Garmin 3205 seems to be a nice unit. It is preloaded with charts and is radar compatable. Defenders has it for just under $900. The Raymarine was about the same price but you have to buy the chart chips.

My C-80

My chip for my C-80 covers from Maine to the west coast of Tampa Florida, and cost $189.00, I got my chip from Defender and have upgraded the software twice so far on the Ray web site but you need a card reader also to do the upgrade. Raymarine did switch from C-Map on the older units which are still supported and now use Navionics. I really like the info you can get with the C-80,it has great tides and current info. Nick

I owned a C-80

I actually owned a C-80 and while it worked it was NOT user intuitive at all. Yes, I got used to it, but just about every feature of the C-80 required about double the key strokes of a Garmin. The ONLY reason I purchased the C-80 was because I wanted an integrated radar and the only one Garmin had, at the time, was a 20" dome. Garmin now has an 18" dome that is very, very nice. While I did have a few mechanical problems with my C-80 Raymarine made good and fixed the problems quickly. Raymarine customer service has come a very, very long way in recent years. I'm coming due for a new plotter/radar combo soon and most likely will NOT be going the Raymarine route now that Garmin has a new line of plotter/radar's...
