I have this clamp on my stern rail that has a cylindrical recess and a set screw to hold something in that recess.... Anyone know what this used to belong to?

maybe for a removable stern light ?
maybe? the hole is about the size of a pencil so that seems small for a stern light. Maybe a stainless steel pin that slid into a grill? But it is mounted right over the gas tank so I'd hope no one mounted a grill right there.

Grill mount. It looks plastic and worn so I would replace it. (You do want to grill on the boat, yes?) The best hamburgers, steaks, sausages, scallops, lobster and corn come from a stern rail-mounted grill. That's where I put mine. The grill hangs out over the water so I don't worry about the gas tank. No wait, I haven't grilled lobster on the boat yet but I bet it'll be pretty dang good.

Looks like a flag holder I used to have.

It's is a metal flag pole holder.... note that the flag pole is missing.... I had one of those... put my flag on the pole, the pole in the bracket on a windy, choppy day.... and I never saw it again...disappeared some time that day. The bracket is NOT robust enough for windy conditions. So.. the lesson is... find another method to secure your flag pole, or fly the flag from the backstay.

Thanks All

BTW: Hunters don't have a back stay, probably why they needed a pole holder.... (pole holder...:cowbell: hmmm)

Perhaps mount one like these atop your transom on the starboard side b/f deciding to (incorrectly) fly the yacht ensign from the starboard spreader, if going that way.:waycool:

Rob, don't waste your time trying that. There's no good place where the transom is flat enough. Mount a flag holder on your stern rail.

I think id like to get a grill at some point

Heating up the cabin with a stove seems like a bad idea

I leave the flag mount on the rail all the time but put the flag down below while grilling. The flag and grill won't work at the same time. At least I don't have to choose between having only one or the other. I also have a fishing rod holder slightly to port on the same rail.
