removehtml]Have a bow thruster on our 2007 44DS (yes, I know its cheating but I like it). On hauling for the first time this Fall, there is some fouling on the prop blades, and even more growth on the part of the motor that sticks into the tunnel. Any ideas on painting either prop or motor before launching? S/V Breathless Error: Error: expected [/URL], but found [/removehtml] instead[/removehtml]

same as prop paint

Albeit plastic rather than bronze, you can always use the same Petit Zinc Coat barnacle barrioer spray paint folks use on the engine prop or simply use bottom paint

I have the bow thruster also. The prop is plastic but the gear housing is aluminun or something similar. I have used bottom paint for the last 4 seasons and have not had a problem. I only haul every other year. Also be sure the zinc on the end of the prop hub is OK. The dealer forgot to install mine. After one season, no zinc and no screw to hold it but IMTRA has them in stock for the side power unit.

It has a zinc?

Never knew it had a zinc. When I chip off all the barnacles I'll have to look for one. The prop is plastic of some sort, I'm trying to figure out how to paint the piece of the motor that sticks into the tube. Thanks

Be very careful. That part the that hangs down in the tube (the gear housing) is most likely an aluminum/magnesium alloy and should not come in contact with a copper based bottom paint. You may get away with it but, if you get a scratch in the coating on the housing you'll be in trouble. The copper and alloy will come in contact with each other and may result in severe corrosion. Use antifouling paint specially designed and labeled for outboards or stern drive lower unit use. Oh, and change the zinc:)
