Anti-freeze in head

Hi Peggie

Went to the boat today and found this....see pic.

Would the RV/Marine antifreeze cause damage to the gasket or do you think I am just noticing it because of the pretty pink color?

The MSD is a Jabsco electric flush (I'm assuming...see pic. It looks like the Jabsco Quiet Flush but has a foot activated switch). I'm searching for the manual online now. Easy fix do you think??

It ain't supposed to leak...

If the toilet is old enough it's barely possible that antifreeze could send a gasket already on its last legs over the edge...but that would be a VERY rare occurrence.

Otoh, there shouldn't have been any antifreeze left in the toilet in the first place...all of it should have been pumped completely through the toilet and down the line to the tank.

Aha! Your toilet is a Wilcox-Crittenden Newport

I knew that Jabsco never made a toilet with a foot pedal flush...and then this morning it hit me who did--Wilcox Crittenden!

Thetford discontinued the entire Wilcox-Crittenden product line at the end of 2008...the W-C brand name is gone....but I'm 99% certain you can still get a rebuild kit for it and even some parts. But don't put a lot of money into it...the Newport has issues W-C was never able to solve....among them, the d'd thing leaks!

I googled the name and found a nice picture that looks exactly like the one I have. Thank you! I 'm going to see if I can locate a gasket and I'm going to go that route for now and think about replacing it at the end of this season.

Jack, any chance the anti-freeze could be leaking from one end or the other of the hand shower's tube - maybe a loose nut? Also, you look to be a decent-sized guy - do you need a lot of bear grease and a shoe horn to get into that head? (just kidding, LOL)

Judging by what I saw yesterday, it looks like it came from where the base of the head meets the floor so i assumed it was probably the toilet. It looked clean behind the toilet but you never know. I will check the connections on the shower this week. We have not had the opportunity to use that shower head so if something was loose, I would never have known.

I did leave anti-freeze in the toilet (which, judging by Peggie's response, was a bad idea) so thats why I assumed it came from there.

And it is pretty tight in there! Maybe a little grease will help this summer!!

Download and print the manual for it...I gave you the link to it. Unfortunately it's not a web address, you actually have to save it to your own computer.

Then call Thetford customer service to find out what you need to do/buy to fix it.
