The anti-fouling on my Hunter needs work but I reaaly don't want to remove all the old stuff which is of unknown origin, does anyone know of a good verstile primer that I could apply before the VC17?

Tough question.

Here's what the online West Marine advisor says about VC-17: Thin Film Teflon Paints Teflon additive creates an extremely low friction surface. The "thinness" of the film and the aggressive solvents allow these paints to dry quickly so multiple coats can be applied in the same day. Pros Hard, smooth surface with excellent durability. Can be burnished to create an extremely low-friction hull surface. Very fast drying; no thick build-up to remove when recoating. Cons Incompatible with most other types of finishes. Because of film thinness, frequent recoating may be required. Gradually loses effectiveness out of water. The "incompatible" is the problem. Can you find a primer that will go over whatever you have? Don't know. You might try calling West Marine at 1-800-BOATING. I couldn't find a phone number for the company, EXTENSOR, that makes VC-17. Good luck.

Call Interlux

the tech support dept. They make VC17 and several others. I don't think you can put a primer over another anti-fouling paint. Either a suitable anti-fouling on top or strip it all off and put a barrier coat the your anti-foul of choice. BOL PJ
