Hello All, I've finally dug the snow off my 240 and I am going to install a stereo in her. Does anyone have any input on what type and where to mount an FM antenna on this boat? I was looking at a fold down 36" shakespere, but I would like any input anyone might have to mount another toe stubber on my boat. Ross

Down Here a Wire Works Fine

There are antennas that you can buy at West Marine that is just a wire that plugs into the antenna jack. They are cheap so it may be worth a try.

I installed my stereo and two of my speakers in the bulkhead at the foot of the vberth. I have the wire antena just laying in the void behind the bulkhead. No problems all over the Chesapeake Bay.

location

I have my antenna in the void that runs aft behind the power panel you can put a standard in that location and it runn down the side of the boat next to the cockpit. Works great all over the puget sound.

External input

You might want a stereo that's "satellite ready" so you can plug in an external satellite receiver. I too have only a wire in my headliner (stereo installed overhead) and that works fine in metro areas. I've been to Ruedi (years ago) and I'd be surprised if you can pick up any terrestrial broadcasts. Does your car radio receive well there? If so, you have a chance; if not, running something up the mast isn't going to do anything for you.
