Antenna lead through hull fitting

I am in need of a through hull adapter for our mast head antenna lead. Any suggestions on which one to use? I have noticed that marine radio do not use bnc type connectors. Is there anything wrong with using them as I have a bnc connector that would work with a cover I could put on it when the antenna is not connected to it?

Thanks
Sam

Sam,
Here is how I did it; I put a plastic box on the mast foot. The mast light cables including antenna cable enter from underneath. In the box are the connectors in the dry allow to disconnect the cables when mast is to remove. Left in the picture is a connector to see used for the antenna cable. One through hull fitting takes all the cable well sealed.

Put the cableclam puck in the freezer. Drill the hole for the vhf cable thru the frozen puck. Pull the vhf cable thru the puck and then add the vhf antenna terminal for the radio. Vhf antenna will then have no intermediate connectors to degrade performance. I used this product as it can handle vhf antenna, anchor wire and mast head wire. Electrical wire holes can be drilled thru the frozen puck as well.

Sam,
Maybe in this context, it might be from interest that I used a splitter on the end of the antenna cable to serve both the VHF and stereo radio. The splitter is directly installed left beside the VHF radio. I could not realize losses but gained the option easily to unplug the antenna cable in the risk of lightening or when leaving the boat unattended.

On my install the electrical wires are connected to a terminal block in the cabin. The vhf antenna is a solid run from the masthead to the vhf radio. The cable cam stays with the wiring (electrical wires and vhf antenna pass thru the puck). I have a cover made of starboard that replaces the cover/puck from the thru deck fitting. The base of the thru deck fitting remains attached to the deck. The vhf antenna has to be fished thru the boat when the mast is dropped/stepped.

You can see it used in my first picture, but you need also the cables to disconnect when removing the mast for transport.
It is designed to not need connectors. The one I have allows for the pl-259 connector at the radio to pass through it keeping one continuous cable. Only downside is having to pull out the wire. I would rather deal with that than with a bunch of connectors.

I understand the benefit of not having a connector in line but that is not a option. I am not going to pull the wire and rerun it each time we drop the mast.
Really need to through hull adapter/connector.

I just installed new coaxial and PL 259 connectors on my little boat. Used a PL 258 female/female to finalize the connections on the deck.

The deck pass-through;

The old stuff lasted a couple of years until I thought it necessary to replace it all.

In your freshwater environment, it should last even longer.

Oooops. Didn't realize you have a trailer sailer.

Since I need to be able to disconnect my antenna lead to drop the mast I need connectors I can use inline. Finding male connectors is easy. But finding a female 239 is not so easy. I see them used on adapter cables so I know they make them, just can't find them. Anyone have a number or name for them?
I know I could use a female female adapter to go from male end to male end but if I can find a female end I can solder on I can remove one connection.

With that female connector I can run the wire up through a 5/16" hole in the deck and then a cable pass through seal and have this female connector for the male 239 on the line coming out of the mast to connect into.

I'm with SVChickadee, scanstrut is the bomb. I use a micrometer to measure the cable diameter and drill through the frozen puck one drill size smaller. It does make a difference, at least in my mind and I've never had one leak. I use Maine Sail's butyl tape to bed the scanstrut to the deck.

Problem solved. Called a local electronics store and they stock the female to coax 239 for the RG8X wire. I will get a hull pass through and be set. Thanks for all the help.
