We also have a Columbia C-36 with an older Cold Machine. Our compressor also is mounted in the lazarette. We have only owned the boat about 7 months. The plate in the icebox has never been more that moderately cool. It has never come close to freezing something. Stuff in the bottom of the icebox will stay cool, but not cold like the frig at home. The compressor seems to be running more or less full time. The thermostat is set at the coldest setting. If we leave the lazarette hatch open over night, the frig contents are noticably cooler, but still not cold Is it time to call a frig mechanic, or is there something I can do for it? Thanks! Kip

if the compressor has a cooling coil on it that is like you breathing with a bag over your head/clean coil and give it air

Time for help

The compressor is located in a space that can become very hot. Place a thermometer in the lazarette and see how hot the air is while the compressor is running. The temperature should not go above 100 degrees F. If it is then you need to ventilate the compartment. This will help with the cooling performance. The other issue is the refrigeration system could be low on refrigerant in which case you need to call in a technician to service the unit. Phil
