hi peggie, went to boat today to start removing hoses, don't know which is worse, changing babies diapers or these hoses. the tank in the c34 is mid-ship on port side. read your last reply about adding a thru hull to make a shorter run and vent thru thru hull, but i don't know where to add one. if you have dealt with this model boat before please give me a recommendation. out the side i'm afraid would possibly allow water to enter on a good heel, or out thru deck? also as far as the 11/2" hose, will get best hose, odor safe or trident, but my boat has both white and black hose. any preference? thanks for all the advice, muchly appreciated...jeff

Put the vent thru-hull right next to the stanchion

If you're concerned about taking on water through it, put a large high clamshell over it. And as long as you're doing that, increase the vent line (and thru-hull of course) to 1". A doodad called the Uniseal makes it very easy to install a new vent fitting in the tank. As for hose, for your 1.5" (and btw, if you have a Jabsco toilet that has a 1" discharge, replace it with a 1.5"...you can get a new discharge fitting from jabsco) go with AVS96--previously sold exclusively by SeaLand as their "OdorSafe" brand, now sold direct by the mfr (http://www.aussieglobe.com/avs96.htm) for a LOT less than SeaLand's price...it's now only $5/ft, cut to any length. They also make the UniSeal. Btw...you don't have to start a new thread every time you have another question about the same project...keeping it all under one thread allows others to keep track of the whole project.

maserator hose length

peggie, a deck thruhull next to the stantion post, with a clamshell cover over it is a great suggestion. i can do, which will make the vent run short and straight. another question, the system has a maserator pump to a thruhull with seacock. the distance between the two is about 2' but the po used about 6' of 1" hose to make a loop up the side of the hull and back down to the thruhull.is this necessary or can i make the run direct?...jeff

You need loop between the macerator and thru-hull

In fact, it really should be a vented loop, not just a high loop in the hose. And btw, that thru-hull should also remain closed at all times except when actually dumping the tank...to prevent sea water from flooding the tank while underway.

maserator hose

i got all the hoses off today. going to order hose from company you suggested.need about 20' of 1+1/2. when i reinstall maserator hose, i will cut it at top of bend and add a vented loop. i always keep the seacock closed and as regular proceedure, exercise all the thru-hulls.i have to get intouch with jabsco to get head rebuilding kit, already had 1+1/2 outlet, but need new gaskets. when the k.o. comes in, i am going to fill the holding tank with fresh water and add the solution. will keep in for a week and then pump out, its getting cold here now so don't want tank full for long. when i get hose in and reassemble, i will let you know how i made out.you were going to let me know how i can get the smell out of the boat. my wife will thank you next spring when she climbs aboard a clean smelling boat. thanks for all the advice, muchly appreciated...jeff

I wouldn't spend the money to rebuild that toilet

A rebuild kit is about $50...you can replace the whole toilet for about $100. Better yet for about another $100, you can upgrade it to a toilet that will last 20 years if you just keep it lubricated and rebuild it every 5-6 years. And will be lot more reliable. That's the Raritan PH II--consistantly rate the best toilet under $500 for several decades. A number of people here have bought 'em...and love 'em.

1" vented loop

hi peggy, taking your advice about installing vented loop on 1" maserator hose. boat us and west don't list a 1" vented loop, only 3/4,1"1/8,and 1"1/2. do you know where i can find a 1" vented loop?...jeff

WM and B/US are not the only sources on the planet

I found 1" vented loops in about 30 seconds by going to Googe and searching for 1" vented loop. Forespar was the first mfr I found http://www.forespar.com/catalog/plumbing/ventloop.htm They may not sell direct, but can direct you to a retailer. Google is a wonderful tool...you can find just about anything with it. How come I seem to be the only one who uses it? :)

cowl position

i will contact forespar to locate dealer in area for 1"vented loop. as far as putting a cowl vent over the deck thruhull, should the opening be facing the stern as regular vents do, or face bow to get more air to vent? thanks...jeff

sink drain into waterinlet.

saw a reply you gave about t-ing the sink drain hose into the water inlet so you can shut the seacock and draw c.p. solution thru the head to keep fresh. currently, the sink drains thru its own seacock and the shower sump is t-eed into the water intake. i can't see a problem switching these two, installing a ball valve into the sink drain hose, so your proceedure will work. if you see a problem with this please advise...jeff
