I have a 76 oday that has an old portapotty MSD. Model potpourri 737 1972 vintage. I believe it's made by Thetford. Does any one now how this thing works? It has a pump but it seems to draw from the black water. And i see no way to add fresh water. Its still in great shape no smells from it so I hate to get a new one. Need to spend that money else where. Greg

We have something similar, and, um, yes it's pumping black water. If you fill it with water and add the right amount of portapottie chemical, what comes into the bowl when you pump is blue and chemical-y. We've gone for 3-day weekends without a problem with odour, other than the smell of the chemical itself.

Still... ours has a crack and I may use that as an excuse to get one of the newer kind with the separate blackwater tank.

Use Odorlos

Use Odorlos, or another product that adds oxygen to the tank, and it doesn't smell at all.

Our porta-potty is plumbed to pump out. I wouldn't be as happy with it if I had to carry the black water off the boat and figure out how/where to dump it at every port.

If ours needs a flush (a rare event) we just pump a little water from the sink on the other side of the head into a glass and pour it into the bowl.

Because it is storing little or no flush water, the tank capacity easily lasts three days for the two of us.

Simplicity means low maintenance and long life. I doubt any marine toilet would last 34 years to match our porta-potty.

Mine is also plumbed for pump out and I use the water from the sink to flush. Just wondering if there was a better way. Thanks Greg

So it Seems

Thanks Peggy. After it was verified that it was the toilet and not me I kinda agree with you. Greg
