Another h23 trailer brake question

Thanks in large part to this forum, my trailer is fast becoming road worthy again. Unfortunately I have encountered yet another brake problem. The extending tongue on the Magic Tilt trailer uses 2 1/2 " galvanized tubing, but brake couplers only seem to come in 2 or 3 inch sizes. I puchased a 3 inch and was thinking of welding 1/4 inch metal shims to the sides and top and then bolting the coupler onto the fabricated tongue. However, this sounds like a less than ideal solution and was wondering if others have solved this problem already. Thanks for the help

It works

Hi Dan I can identify with your brake project because I had to replace all the running gear and brakes on my 1994 23.5 trailer. My trailer came from the factory with the same solution to the brake master cylinder mounting problem that you mentioned. There are 1/4" <approx> spacers on each side to make it fit snugly. I agree with you that it is not an elegant solution, geez...would it have killed them to use 3" tubing for the tongue? It does seem to work OK though and I've had no problems with the master cylinder mount. Good luck and I'll be glad to help any way I can. Alan Long S/V Random Access
