I'd say it's a production boat of some sort that has had that high stern area (and aft cabin?) added.

Rich, I don't know. But it is a center cockpit, so I don't think anything has been "added." That's also because the gunwale has what appears to be an OEM "bump near the cockpit. At least a 70s based on the bow pulpit design.

It looks like a Roberts design.

I don't recall the designer's name but I believe this is one of the boats that was built from a set of molds available for do-it-yourself in North Kingstown, RI around 15 years ago. The work was done in a large building in a very rural section of the town. I haven't been back there in awhile so I don't know what became of the molds. I don't know how many hulls actually went to completion but 'd bet you could count them on one hand.

The spartan appearance and off-the-shelf ports scream home built to me. It may have been a purchased hull and deck for starters but the rest is typical for amateurs. And I'm not casting aspersions on amateur builders, I've seen some incredible amateur work over the years.

One of the common problems for many amateur builders is proper budgeting. Once they've blown the entire wad on a hull/deck/ballast, there's still 70% of the expense to go and 0% left to spend on it.

Thanks for all your guidance and "guesses". I suspected that it might have been a home-built boat myself.

Now I wish I had taken the opportunity to go over and ask the owner.

Not a big deal, just idle curiosity.....

Rich,

I'm sure it's home made. It was being launched the same day I was by Brownell in Mattapoisett. It's either a steel or cement hull. Don't remember.

Looks like one of Brent Swain's origami hulls. Many of them have the high free board and other design cues I see in that boat.
