I just got a new copy of the Bahamas Cruising Guide and in their reference pages it mentions the Advance Notice of Arrival (ANOA) requirement that all foreign vessels regardless of size must submit a ANOA form 96 hours prior to arrival into a US port. Evidently the USCG is now enforcing this. Does anyone know if this is true? I tried getting the ANOA form from the webite mentioned but it requres all sorts of prereqs including Microsoft InfoPath. Then I tried filling out the online form and some of the mandatory infomation required is ridiculous.

Small recr. vessels exempt

It was my understanding that the ANOA check in requiremens were amended to exclude vessels under 300 tons. Tha accompanying website seems to confirm that. I know in SF Bay, there is no problem for small boats.

Foreign vessels still required to provide ANOA

This seems to only exempt returning US registered vessels - and the requirement for foreign vessels to provide ANOA appears to remain (as near as I can tell). Federal Register - Vol. 68, No. 217 - Monday, November 10, 2003 Coast Guard RULES Ports and waterways safety: Vessels arriving in or departing from U.S. ports; notification requirements Correction - 63735 [03–28189] Text at: http://a257.g.akamaitech.net/7/257/2422/14mar20010800/edocket.access.gpo.gov/2003/03-28189.htm ~or~ http://a257.g.akamaitech.net/7/257/2422/14mar20010800/edocket.access.gpo.gov/2003/pdf/03-28189.pdf including: “Sec. 160.210 [Corrected] 0 4. In Sec. 160.210(c) immediately preceding the words ``vessels 300 or less gross tons operating in the Seventh Coast Guard District'' add the word ``foreign''.”

No need for notice

Got back last month. Checked in at Lake Worth. All you have to do is call the 800 number - they give you a clearance number and you have to report in person to the Homeland Security office (used to be customs and immigration)with all your crew within 24 hours. This is a special procedure for small vessels. This applies to US and foreign vessels. The last six digits of the clearance number are date and time to the second!

Thanks Rick I

its nice to hear from someone who actually has checked it without this procedure. Hopefully they won't implement it any time soon.
