Hi All: Does anyone know if we are able to reserve a mooring ball in Annapolis ? Our trip south next year will put us in Annapolis for the boat show, and wanted to make plans well in advance. Thanks ......... Jeff

Annapolis doesn't take reservations

Jeff, You can't reserve mooring balls. During the busy season, you normally just wait around 11:30 for people to leave between then and noon (check out time). If you really want to be in Annapolis, you'll have to reserve a slip. Harry

Most of the mooring ballls are unavailable during

the Annapolis Boat show .... as they use these mooring balls to anchor the floating docks, etc. that are used for the show. Most boatbound visitors either take a slip or anchor in BACK CREEK and then 'hoof-it' to the show.

Water taxis

Annapolis mooring balls (city owned) are always "first-come, first-served". Almost half of the moorings in the harbor are out of service during the show but there are mooring balls further up Spa Creek (under the bridge) and up Back Creek. All moorings (and marinas) are served by the water taxi which will get you to the show if you are too far away to walk.

Going to the boat show

in Annapolis, by boat, is a challenge. My advice would be to check out the nearby marinas at the link below and see if you can reserve a transient slip there. Do so as far in advance as possible, as Annapolis is a zoo during the show. Depending on location, you could either try to walk, take the water taxi, or a land taxi to the show. I've also included a link to the Harbor Master's office. Never hurts to call him for advice. Very helpful people there. http://www.ci.annapolis.md.us/info.asp?page=1320

Less than half are taken over by the show...

but the real problem is that so many folks come in for the month and take a mooring. There is a good week and month price, and lots of liveaboards/cruisers come and work the shows and take a mooring for the months Sept/Oct enroute south. Vacancies are very hard to come by. Or course, the achorage off the naval academy is packed with others who just anchor. My suggestion: stop off up in Balitmore. Great marinas, great services, and it's a pretty easy drive down the Annapolis. When it's showtime down there, things get crazy. Heck, houses rent for $1,000 a night. I can't imagine what a slip would go for.
