The Spinnaker Halyard discussion raised a question: Will have mast down to install wind instrument and attempt to solve leaking at mast step. Water occasionaly puddles around base of table post. I currently ONLY have a Main Halyard and Jib Halyard. (Bought boat like this, has rigid boom vang). I would appreciate any thoughts on installing the following: 1)Topping Lift (just in case problem with rigid) 2)Spinnaker Halyard Any tricks to installation with mast down? Any other recommendations while mast is down? This is probably the first time in five years the mast has been un-stepped. Thank You, Bryce HUN 29.5

Change the Bulbs

If it were mine the anchor light would go out the week after I put the mast back up.

No Tricks

I just went through a spinnaker halyard and topping lift [whisker pole] installation on my 35.5. I first tried when the mast was down last year, but it is impossible . .you need gravity. Climb the mast and use a fishing weight and 90 lb mono line is my advice. Fred Miller

I do not agree (Fish tape works great!)

I don't agree! I am sorry if I create some waves (hehehe no pun intended!) Any way, fish tape works great. Just go to lowes or like electrical supply and purchase fish tape. It is wire and rigid. This makes it so it will not bind on the way through the mast. It will work. But you need a bit of patients and it also helps to have some one at the other end to keep their eyes open for the wire to come out the whole or near it. Skipper (Manager of South Coast Yachts)
