Have any of you PNW cruisers anchored in these waters off the Discovery Passage? If so, do you have some details of the area(s).

Gowland Harbour is a great place to anchor been there many times without a problem, the only thing that you have to watch out for is the logging that is ongoing I've never anchored at April point . Check with active captain for other remarks.

Where in there do you drop your hook? There appear to be several possibilities.:)

April Point Lodge hosts a lot of people who come there for fishing and hire the sport fishing guides. We were there years ago and they had a huge fleet of large Boston Whalers and they'd zoom around with the guests and the guide. Not sure I'd want to be anywhere within their wake influence zone.

Been through and stopped at Campbell River many times but never anchored there or around April Lodge. In the summer that is a busy area. That goes for "Desolation" Sound, too.

Going to Octopus Islands, arriving up Georgia Strait in the 2nd week of August; comparing passing along Quadra Island's west coast via Discovery Passage versus its east coast via Surge Narrows.

Chart (CA 3539) shows a few other potential anchoring sites going up the west side and around: Menzies Bay, Plumper Bay, Kanish Bay (behind the Chained Islands), Granite Bay, Barnes Bay, Owen Bay, and Bodega Anchorage.
