Bucket

I sail on the Columbia River and when the wind blows us up on our anchor, we tie a bucket to the stern to keep us from tripping the anchor. Another tip would be to go slow and be cautious. Don't really know what else to say to such a general question. Do you have any specific questions? LaDonna

Avoidance

I like to avoid anchoring in strong currents. One night between the wind and some confused currents off Blakely Island in Puget Sound, the rode managed to get fouled around the keel and we dragged. I've since upgraded my anchor, but am not at all fond of anchoring in strong currents and will go to lengths to avoid it. I too have heard of but not used La Donna's bucket technique. anchoring in current

use a 'bahamian rode' (2 anchors, 180 deg. apart, with a sentinal on each rode to keep from fouling keel)
