Any recommendations for the purchase of 3/8 three-strand nylon line anchor rode. Also I found a website offering Norestar premium double braid nylon for $59 forv150 Foot length. Any thoughts or recommendations for where to purchase. I will also use 10-15 feet of 1/4 chain. Thanks.

Select your rope size according to what splices to the corresponding chain size. Rule of thumb is that chain rode should be 2/3 of the boat's LOA, so 15 ft is about right. Nothing wrong with 1/4" chain for C22, but thicker and heavier is better, go 5/16 if you can.

There are lots of good suppliers for bulk line, including our hosts here at SBO. IIRC, I got my 1/2" nylon 3-strand from Jamestown. Or you can wait for WM to put their line on 30% or 40% off, which they do occasionally.

I went for 1/2" over 3/8" partly for a little more strength, but more for abrasion resistance. If I had it to do over again, I think I might look for a 7/16" 12-strand (like New England's Mega Braid, although I don't think they make that in 7/16"). Still larger and stronger than 3/8" 3-strand, but easier to fit in the anchor locker without twisting and tangling. That's my guess, anyway. I'm not certain if any reputable manufacturers make it in 7/16", and I'd better not actually go look for it, or I'd be tempted to spend more $$.

Re: Chain: As @CloudDiver said, the standard rules seemed to be either 2/3 or 1 boat length of chain. So, being my paranoid self, I compromised on ~1.5 boat lengths (30') of 1/4" high-test. My memory is that the 1/2" 3-strand spliced fine to 1/4" chain. At least it looked OK as I watched my wife work - she's much better than me at splicing 3-strand. :)

Both my anchors have around 8' of probably 5/16" chain and a around 150' to 200' 3/8" 3 strand nylon line for the rode. I like my anchor lines to stretch, makes it easy on the boat and anything larger than 3/8" is too big for the cleats for me.

And Don has lots more experience than I do, so listen to him before me!

Also, my boat has oversize cleats - it didn't occur to me to mention that 7/16" or 1/2" line might not fit well in the stock cleats.

I agree... for an anchor line, go with 3 strand and not double braid... especially when buying it from an "un-proven" online supplier.
3 strand has the stretch the anchor needs for maximum holding.

Usually, double braid flakes very well, but when I wanted 300ft of 3/8 double braid as a stern tie line, i went the "affordable" route and bought it cheap online.... the stuff is nearly as stiff as hard-lay crab pot rope like the commercial boys use... it is NOT what you want for an anchor rope. It works alright for my application, but not ideal as it has a high tendency to kink...

If using chain and rode, a good rode is 8 strand nylon. A main use is for rode. Very flexible, spliceable and will nest the best of all lines. Ideal for going around windlass gypsies. Check out at knotandrope.com. it will take up half the space in your locker vs 3 strand. Also higher tensile strength.
