I'm interested in traveling to Plymouth, MA via Buzzard's Bay and the Cape Cod Canal. Anyone from that area that can recommend or know of available dockage in Plymouth Harbor? Thanks for any feedback. Jonathan

Check Brewer's

Check with Brewer's Plymouth and make a reservation. If not them, call the harbormaster. Nice place to visit. Stay a couple of days. The entrance is about 2-3 miles long. Take a whale watch tour (sunset cruise - less people) for a great/excellent experience! Just make sure that when you attempt the canal that you go WITH the flow. Timing is critical!

PYC

I've always had good success getting a mooring at the PYC. good facilities launch service etc. there's also 2 excellent anchorages on the approach to PH. as your entering, to the port side of the channel near "C-19" there's a 15-20 foot anchorage and also a nice spot to the north of Clarks Island (starboard after Bug Light). there's no channel markers leading to the CI anchorage, so watch the chart and your depth sounder. I just went thru woods hole and the canal

current was with us going thru woods holes 8 to 9 knots of boat speed thru there...But once we hit the canal is was against us.. We still managed 4 knots of boat speed thru there. We made it from Vineyard Haven to Weymouth in 12 1/2 hours.. motoring of course but still alot of miles for one day. We went on the outside cape cod on our way to Nantucket but ended up having anchor near nauset light due to large waves and 30 to 40 knots of wind..It ended up being the right call as another sail boat heading to Nantucket that day snapped it's mast in Nantucket sound.. Of course the next day was calm but foggy... There also is quite a ripe current going thru the pollick rip channel..We were down to 2.8 knots going thru there in dense fog..real fun seeing two 50' sport fishers coming out of the fog 20 feet away and I have no radar.. Didn't get into Plymounth but have many times in the past and it's a nice place to visit.. Don't forget to checkout the Mayflower.. Good luck with your trip.
