Anchor Windlass

We have a Yamaha 33 tall rig with the 2 cylinder Yanmar. How has anybody mounted a windlass on this boat? I saw a Y33 with what looked like a SL Anchorman vertical manual windlass mounted forward of the anchor locker. How does this work?

I'm looking for ideas and if anyone has a Y 33 with any sort of windlass I will appreciate your help.

Use a 24V windlass?

Rick - if you're "looking for any ideas", one thought would be to buy a 24V model to save on the conductors. The price of copper cables is out of sight and 24V would allow a smaller gage.

I'm assuming the engine and batteries are aft - is this a correct assumption? Somehow I remember a Yamaha model where the engine and/or batteries were forward but I could be all wet on this.

Another thing to look for is the "fall" distance for the chain. The windlass manufacturer will recommend a fall distance so maybe if the windlass was forward of the chain locker that would allow the skipper to help feed the chain and rode better if the locker isn't that deep.

Just a couple thoughts. Hope this helps stir the pot.
