Anchor Windlass on Hunter 34

Hello Fellow sailors, I am looking for information on installing an anchor windlass on my 1983 Hunter 34'. Has anyone on here installed one on thier boat and do you have any photos you would be willing to share? Also any upgrades to the anchor roller that you may have done would be helpful too.

There are 58 threads on the subject of a windlass for the H34. Problem is that if they are archived the pictures are lost. But you might get several ideas from there:

Point is that a "Search" of the "Forums" and of the "Owner Modifications" can garner a lot of info in a very short time.

Hi Dan,
If your project is for later in the year, Ill be able to help with pictures. The boat is under tarp, on the hard, in Montreal, and I am in Florida until March.

The pictures are unfortunately in my home computer. I did an installation similar to Fred, but did deepen the anchor well rather than cut the bottom off completely like Fred. Works well with 75 ft of 5/16 grade 40 chain spliced to 150 ft of 9/16 rope. Lewmar windlass and modified anchor roller allow me to drop the hook (Bruce 39 lbs) and retrieve it from the cockpit control.

Hi Dan,
I can get you a picture next week if you need one. I went small. I installed a horizontal manual windlass aft of the chain and rhode locker. I have 50 ft of 5/16” bb chain and 150 foot of 5/8” nylon line with a 35# CQR and 15# Kiwi sentinel. I like the low profile clean foredeck and simplicity of this setup. I have anchored from the Bahamas to Block Is. Connecticut and never had a problem.
I do not like Electric Windlasses and in particular do not like vertical windlasses but It is a matter of taste and purpose. My Admiral positions the boat so that current is not a problem. If you are single handling your decisions are based on different factors.
