Rather than putting forth an exorbitant amount of dollars for an electric windlass, why not use something like a trailer, hand crank winch for raising the anchor?

I'm thinking of mounting it on it's side so as to give clearance, Clarance, to the handle. Jannow?

It could be used with a couple of turns of anchor rode around the drum...I assume that the anchor chain would also turn around that drum when it comes to that.

What's anyone think?

Tanks, Rich.

Not Chain

I don't think is much room on a trailer winch for chain and or rode for a long anchor line, you need to put out a lot of anchor chain or rode unless short stay for lunch in real shallow water,I have seen boats drag anchor with 50 ft of chain.

Turned on it's side the winch will coil up the rode all on the bottom and it will be quite a mess. IMO it sounds like more trouble than anything else.
