Hi all
I have a share in an Oceanis 411 and we need to replace the original Leroy Somer anchor windlass (model G12407). As Leroy Somer no longer manufactures windlasses, can anyone recommend a suitable replacement windlass please? We have a 20kg Rocna anchor.
Very grateful for any suggestions ...
Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike;
On my 411 LE the windlass is a Simpson-Lawrence Horizon Express 1000, rated for 1000lbs. S-L was absorbed by Lewmar. It looks like the Lewmar Pro-Series is a close replica.

Yeah, the Lewmar Pro is a good choice. And reasonable too. When I first got mine (came with a new 393) I thought it was a toy that belonged on the bow of a 27 foot power boat but eight years later it's still working and I anchor all winter. Had to put a new motor in because the brushes went and no one could replace them and have had two controllers but the windlass is surprisingly robust. Mine has a 3/8 gypsy and my anchor's a 45# Manson Supreme.

As mentioned earlier, I had to replace only the Pro1000 windlass. At West, the guy went to their supplier who said just the windlass (no other parts) would be 1105$ due to a recent price increase. The catalog price is 999, and West is honoring that price, so I got the full kit for less than the price of just the windlass.

The Leroy Somer winch installed on our 44.7 stopped working recently - pulled it apart and the problem was the reversing solenoid which I found could be easily replaced. In fact Muir winches are made here and they use the same solenoid. The solenoid is a TE106 model which is also used in fork lift trucks etc and is quite common.

The Leroy Somer is no longer made but is a robust design and you should get many years use out of it.

Now installed and working fine - cost $110 which is significantly cheaper than a new winch.
