Anchor Well holding water

I have a 1988 Hunter 26.5 and it seems as though the anchor well at the bow of the boat keeps holding water. It seems as though there is a drain on the starboard side but it never drains. I thought it may had just been clogged up with dirt or an old wasps nest from the previous owner but when I started digging into the drain from the outside I hit what seems to be fiberglass. I removed the majority of the water from the anchor hold by hand and examined the inside and sure enough I don't see any type of drain that drains to the starboard side. Am I just missing something here, or does it possibly sound like the previous owner covered it up with a makeshift repair?

Entirely possible, although not the only possibility. I wonder what's keeping the thru-hull in place without the "nut" on the inside of the hull.....hope it's not 5200!

Could be the factory just forgot to drill the rest of the way through. No gap between the hole in the hull and the blockage you ran into? I'd go ahead and drill the rest of the way through. If there is a gap, pack it with epoxy putty then drill.

First he needs to remove the existing thru-hull. When he's done whatever needs to be done with epoxy, then replace it with a bulkhead or "mushroom" thru-hull, properly sealed on both sides with bedding compound.

Wow! You'd think someone would have run that down before now. Good luck and if you run into any questions, pictures would help a lot.

As I freqeuntly suggest, and here I go again, it is a good idea to make a second drain on the other side, maybe a few inches higher, in case the OEM gets plugged up in any way.. On many boats if the water backs up in the locker, it will flow into the cabin.

Plus that can be a lot of weight up as far forward as it can get. That will really mess up your trim. Bad enough with just the anchor and chain up there.

We just removed all of our chain/rode to clean the anchor locker. There were some broken sea shell pieces in their that blocked the hole. A coat hanger was our tool of choice to pop it clear.
