Anchor
The type of anchor depends on a lot of factors. Not all anchors are suitable for all conditions.Do you mostly anchor in sand, rocks, mud, or is there grass.The CQR is good in most all conditions.A Dadforth good in mud and sand, but not grass.You can get a lot of usefull comparrison information in the 2000 catalogs published by West Marine, or BoatUS. They provide basic information regarding hold strength, what anchors are good for different bottom conditions, etc.Also, check PS for recient studies on anchors. They published one in the last few months.Chain is important in helping set the anchor. Some use all chain rode. You should have at least one boat length in chain. Don't go with the "standard" six feet supplied with most kits.Also, its is good practice to have at least two anchors, for varing bottom conditions or bad weather.
