You're a bit behind the times on the new anchor types. Rocna and Manson Supreme have been getting very good reviews. Maine Sail did a writeup and it's included in this long thread: http://c34.org/bbs/index.php/topic,2705.0.html

I went with the Manson Supreme 25 lb. Holds quick - have yet to drag. No complaints.

Bruce 33 with 30 feet of chain! It held me in a 60 knot storm a few times last summer.

I know those that swear by Manson Supreme.

I would go up a size from what the manufacturer recommends. It is just extra protection.

considering the manson 25lb as primary (assume most would prefer over the delta; less$).

secondary just the wm prem fluke; assuming 14lb but possibly up to the 25lb?

any suggestions on other than west marine to buy either/both?

I still suggest the lewmar version of the Bruce anchor that you get at West Marine. Put that with 30 feet of chain and you have some good ground tackle. I have spent a lot of time cruising around the Chesapeake Bay and rode out some nasty storms. I have only had an issue setting the anchor once and The next time I tried to set it in the same area it dug in and held.

thanks for the help.. have been doing more reading on other threads, there are certainly a lot of opinions! looks like almost all split between bruce/manson.

It is actually good to carry two different anchors. Sometimes you may not be able to grab the bottom in some areas with the primary anchor.

Rocna is a good anchor, as is the mason supreme. The bruce is a favorite of a lot of different cruisers.

I bought my Lewmar Claw Anchor (same as a bruce) from West Marine for less than $100. I then added 30 feet of chain to it for a descent price. It has held in some strong storms.

According to Lewmar, boats about my size can get by with a 22 lb anchor but I went to the 33 lb for extra hold. It also sits perfectly on the bow sprit!

thanks for all the advise.. one last post then I'm done!

primary option:

lewmar claw - 33lb
or
manson - 35lb (or 25lb?)

secondary:

danforth - 16lb (or do the 25lb?)
or
westmarine - 22lb (def over the 13lb? they do have the package set up with a 13lb)

another question which obviously i can find out on my own:

i'll put the primary on the bowsprit; is there room in the anchor locker then for the secondary or usually store in the cockpit?

thanks

Consider keeping the secondary anchor in the cockpit lazarette, ready for quick emergency deployment.
