Hi, I was wondering how folks deal with anchor/rode storage. Right now my anchor and rode is stored in the under the vberth. It seems rather un-accessable and would like to have both on deck while sailing. Any ideas? Thanks Kevin

idea on anchor storage

go to macgregor-boats.com lots of good ideas... some have created storage for the rode by cutting the vberth bow wall, and building a box for rode storge from bow deck... and some put the anchor on the pulpit rail. (hanging). other store it in the vberth, or laz. for now, I store mine (20# navy w/200' rode & 8# fluke w/ 100' rode + chain) in 2 milk cartons, in the Laz. I pull one plastic container from the laz, and bungy cord it to the bow life line. I then toss the anchor and rode over, and secure to bow cleat. I am able to sail around in light to medium w/ anchor and crate bungy-ed to the life lines. (however, its hardly elegant)

Storing in the Lazerette

Hi, Thanks for the reply. I think I will go your route for now, and move my anchor storage to the lazerette. I looked over the mod's pages again, and while I didn't see many that discussed anchor storage, I did see a couple that discussed fixing up the lazerette with a floor and other options. I think this will be one of my next to do's for my boat. Kevin PS. I love my Mac 26S.

laz/ anchor rode

I'm sure theres a link for a 26S or 26d on anchor rode. basicly, you drill the bow deck, install a 'hawse' (cover for rope/chain w/ hole for rode to go below deck), then cut and build a box to hold the rode behind the vberth bulkhead, (dave 26D) added a drain and connected it to the sink drain..(nice idea), its a big job, and requires a bit of cutting, and fiberglass work, and in the end, you're only storing the anchor rope/chain combo... you still have to connect the rode to the anchor, which would be stored below, or on hooks on the pulpit (cant be too heavy), so you cant deploy the anchor in a hurry. -I didnt like that idea... I always want a anchor I can toss in a hurry if I loose power in a channel, or wrap the prop w/ a loose line. The anchor/rode in the bottom of a milk carton works for me... I did cut about 2" of each rod, on the 8# fluke (the part that helps re-set the anchor), I also carry a 20# plastic coated navy anchor (ready to go), and a huge 15# danforth, that is not connected to rode. -by bungying the milk crate to the lifeline, it cant slip thru, when sailing, and drains well. when I have time, I restore to laz... The floor on the laz is a great enhancement. just leave some room in front to drain w/ hand bilge pump, or add electric pump.... best of luck!

Anchor Storage

I hang a danforth from the bow rail and I had a canvas maker make me a canvas bag that also hangs from the bow rail. The bag is big enough to store 6 feet of chain and 100 feet of 3/8 line. This works out as a quick and easy anchor. I have a bruce style with 150 feet of 1/2 inch line in the lazarette too.
