Anchor roller

I have a 1987 Hunter 285 and I want to make using the anchor a lot easier by installing a anchor roller. I noticed that some newer Hunters (about the same size as a 285) have them install from the factory. There is the bracket that anchors the jib roller to the bow and just behind it a little room, till you come to the anchor locker door, to (I think) screw down the roller. It seems to me that I'd have to cut/grind out a small portion of the toe rail to allow the roller to sit flat (more or less) on the deck. However, the problem I see is one of access. I just can't find a way of getting to the underside of the deck at the bow. The molded in anchor locker is in the way. It had me wondering how the bracket for the jib roller is screwed in and how would I get to it for repairs. I don't want to just "wood screw" the roller to the deck, even if it's balsa cored. I'd want to put a backing plate behind it. Any suggestions?

Not good Idea

I also have a 28.5 and I wonder about enough support for the Anchor Roller. Ther will not be enough support to bolt it to on deck. Boat was not designed for it. If you did it I would wonder about it being ripped out of the deck in bad weather. Do you know about the Hunter 28.5 group?
