I am trying to hook up an anchor chain to an anchor running thru the roller on the bow. I can fit the chain but I cannot find a fitting that will go thru the roller. any help?

by "fitting" I am assuming you mean anchor shackle..... you dont have much choice.

a shackle that equals the strength of the chain will be of a certain size and there is nothing that can be done about it.... you will have to modify the anchor roller to make the shackle pass thru.

I once saw a man trim the flat part of the shackle fastener that would be used as a thumb screw to tighten it.
That small bit was enough to give the clearance he needed. He'll need a hacksaw to remove it.

and without the flat with the hole in it, you cant "mouse" the pin... they do make shackles that the pin is headless and you need an allen wrench to tighten/loosen it.... but not sure how well this will work in the salt enviroment. one may still need the hack saw..... so for long term dependability, its back to getting the proper sized bow/anchor roller...

or if one doesnt think they need a shackle, there are links available to join the chain.

Take a step back. Is the chain sized appropriately for the weight of the anchor and size of the boat? On two of our boats the previous owners used absurdly large chain. I think they were going for a short, heavy piece instead of a longer appropriate size. In any event, our problems were solved on both boats by adding the correct size of chain. Our rule of the thumb has always been to use anchor shackles one size larger than the chain, so for the 1/4" chain we have, I use 5/16" shackles. Both go through the anchor roller that came factory on our 27-3.
