Anchor Roller

Folks,

Well, just made it home after three years of geo-bachleorhood. Now, I've got time to get my 260 back in the water and sailing on a regular basis. I've got two questions about an anchor roller.

1. Is there a backing plate to screw one into?
2. What one would ya'll recommend?

I have the stock roller that Hunter installed on my boat. It appears to be bolted into a backing plate, probably aluminum. This bow roller is not big enough to store an anchor that would be large enough to hold the boat.

It appears to be designed to used to only raise and lower the anchor. That is all I use it for, when anchored out I use a bridle from the rode to the two bow cleats. It works well to get the anchor in and out, much easier on the back and the gelcoat.

To install a bigger stronger bow roller would probably require a custom made setup with a support going from the bolt that holds down the chainplate. That is the bolt that Mike (soling42) just warned us about. As a matter of fact he has a larger bow roller on his boat, checkout the picture in that post.

Found mine at a marine supplier in St Augustine on-line. Sorry I can't give you more. There is a backing plate but I added through bolts which although tricky, can be accessed from behind the V-berth access panel(if I remember right).

Check the width/length carefully. Mine is: 15" overall/13" locker to roller pin/2" roller/4 mounting holes. Mine had to be squeezed just a bit at the locker end(think sledge hammer/vise) to fit the slot. It now holds my 10kg Rocna nicely ready to deploy anytime. My bail is just a tiny bit too narrow to always pull the anchor shackle through so I'll be fabricating a wider bail from some SS rod. If it'd fit I'd have a little wider roller too. Most of my issues are because of my mania with heavy ground tackle but thanks to Bobs encouragement I'll just use a bridle and get therapy for the rest

Yeah...living alone. Fifthteen months with the Army in Iraq (I'm AF), two months home, then 21 months in Wyoming to finish up career. Thanks for the pictures. We don't anchor much...yet, and the water's not deep around here (Mississippi), but this is definitely on my to do list.
