I am looking at anchor rollers (my Hunter 2002 270 does not have a roller) but do not know the width of the "channel" the anchor roller fits in. My boat is wrapped up for the winter so I cannot easily take a measurement. Does anyone have the measurement of the maximum width of anchor roller that can be put on my boat; my 2002 Hunter 270 is basically the same as a Hutner 260 so a measurement from a 260 would be good.

Jim,
When I had a 2003 H-260 it came with what I thought was a relatively short mount roller. After looking in the WM catalog, I identified it as a "Windline" AR-3 Medium BOW Roller, WM Model # 153593. I replaced it with a URM 2, WM model # 469742. Both have a 1 3/4" channel width and the same bolt pattern. I felt the extra length on the URM 2 was better to keep the Danforth anchor from scraping the bow.

Thanks Steve, I am now looking at the Windline along with a friend who also has a Hunter 260 & finds the stock roller inadequate.

Just an add-on inquiry. Is there a backing plate on the rode channel to mount the anchor roller? I'd think it's pretty hard to get an aftermarket backing plate in to that spot.

There is an embedded aluminum backing plate under the channel but I drilled through it and with the fwd V-berth panel removed you can get your arm back in there for a stronger installation w/nuts and washer.

I recently modded the roller in the picture on the left with a wider roller and tweaked the bail to accommodate the larger ground tackle that I needed to sleep well. Kelli got tired of the shackle always fouling in the small bail being too narrow.
Good luck. Mike

Mike will that anchor pull right up tight to the roller or does it sit out front like in the picture on the left ? if so does it "flop" around at all in big waves ? It looks like a problem could be that the shank may be too long (or high?) to go into the slot into the anchor locker ?

I am using the smaller Delta 14lb quickset as it just fits in the anchor locker fine. In heavy weather I add an FX 11 Fortress at 60* for insurance, but I would be happier with a bigger Rocna or Manson if I had the bow roller to mount one on.

I have used the Delta over night in 40+ KT winds, and 3 ft waves alone. I set it with 75 ft of 1/4" HT chain, and an 8 lb mushroom anchor as a sentinal without any dragging :D. I must admit I did keep the GPS on all night long waiting for an alarm to sound (GPS track below!).

Thats a stinkin' blow for sure. Glad everything held up.

I always put a restraining hook on the chain at the shackle that holds my Rocna snug in the roller when it's fully retrieved. I often add a safety line from the roll bar to my bow rail too. In the pic on the left you can see how it sets which is just fine.

My only gripe about the roller bracket is the light weight. On the other hand the whole boat is light weight so I'm just obsessing (again). The roller and bracket are really an absolute must upgrade for this boat, closely followed by a dozen other items that make the boat a fine coastal cruiser that is still somewhat trailerable.

Cya, Mike

Far less of a "must" item....Here's a pic of my latest addition, a remnant of my summer refit. 300sq' Gennaker, 3' carbon bow sprit and Facnor continuous line furler. Tons of juice but an engineering pain to figure the layout for tough-enough rigging. The upside, I'm using it quite a bit and it works great.....now;)
