The anchor locker hatch cover on the bow of my 34 O'Day has, of course, a finger hole used to open the lid. There is no latch of any kind that can be reached through this hole. Was there ever a latch? Is something missing?

Mine just has a bungee cord from the lid to a strap inside. I think the hole just let's you open it without having something protruding above the deck that you will stub your toe on or smash with the anchor

Yup, just a hole, no latch inside and never had a problem.

the bungee cord just prevents the cover from flying open when the wind catches it, keeps it under control

..what jibes138 said. The bungee cord unhooks to fully open the hatch.

Gotta get a bungee then. Haven't had a problem yet without one, guess that's what the eye strap in the bottom of the locker is for. Didn't think that was sized for the bitter end of the rode. :)
