In the process of replacing the anchor light in our Hunter 38 - has anyone ever done this? What I was surprised at was that the light was not a 'twist' in light - rather, it was placed between two posts. If anyone has replaced the light, how did you ensure that the bulb was secure between the connection points? Thanks.

The bulb should fit securely. To test try to pull it out with slight force; it should resist the effort. If you are having problems with the fixture then might be time to consider replacing with an LED unit. The light is brighter and can be seen from farther away and more than likely you will never have to replace it or worry about it ever again.

The receptice does not normally go bad. The contacts top and bottom do corrode and given that there is a small contact area can make the unit inoperative. Before you go replacing the unit take some 100 grit sand paper aloft and try cleaning the contacts. A mirror is handy to see down into the unit if you cannot get your head above the masthead.
